Ingredients

  • 8 oz penne pasta any shape works
  • 1 lb lean ground beef 85 percent lean recommended
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese freshly grated preferred
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tsp olive oil for sautéing

Equipment

  • Large pot for pasta
  • Large skillet

Method

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water before draining.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté the onion and garlic until soft and fragrant.
  3. Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart. Drain excess fat and season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
  4. Lower the heat to medium-low. Pour in the heavy cream and simmer gently. Add pasta water to reach your desired thickness.
  5. Stir in the Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth.
  6. Add the drained pasta to the skillet. Toss until coated and serve hot.
