- Preheat the oven to 350°F. If using fresh green beans, boil them for 5 minutes until tender-crisp. Drain well. If frozen, thaw and pat dry. Canned beans should be drained.
- In a large bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, and black pepper. Mix until smooth.
- Stir in the green beans and 2/3 cup of the fried onions. Mix well to coat everything evenly.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Bake uncovered for 25 minutes.
- Sprinkle the remaining onions and cheese over the top. Bake for another 5 minutes until golden and crispy. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
For best results, pat green beans dry to avoid a watery casserole. Add onions at the end to keep them crunchy.
